FleetMatics Advances Global Disaster Recovery Plan With Servecentric Data Centre Infrastructure Project
Servers hosted in Ireland integrate with facility in Colorado to provide additional performance and powerful scalability for GPS vehicle tracking customers
DUBLIN, IRELAND (29 September 2011) – FleetMatics, a leading global provider of fleet management solutions for commercial fleet vehicles, announced today that it has completed the implementation of a new hosted data centre with Servecentric, based in Dublin, Ireland. Servecentric will now provide hosted servers to support all FleetMatics’ Ireland and UK customers, enabling FleetMatics with a second, fully redundant data centre. The infrastructure implementation augments the company’s other hosting site with ViaWest in Denver, Colorado.
“TheFleetMatics system has already been performing at a 99.989 percent uptime, so any data centre provider we chose must be in a position to help us sustain or improve this level of service,” said Peter Mitchell, FleetMatics CTO. “Servecentric has lived up to our exacting standards. In addition to vastly increased capacity, this site has also increased our system response time further and brought us one step closer to implementing our goal of a Global Disaster Recovery program.”
Proven Hosting Solution Delivers Powerful Benefits
Based in Dublin, Ireland, Servecentric has earned a reputation as a first-class managed services, collocation and business continuity company. By teaming up with Servecentric, FleetMatics further demonstrates its commitment to providing high-quality, high availability GPS solutions to small- and medium-sized businesses that utilise fleet vehicles. Migration to the new hosting site went live seamlessly, with no service interruption or customer impact.
Aidan Donnelly, CEO of Servecentric, indicated that FleetMatics is a strategic customer. “We specialise in the support of businesses which have great demands for their IT infrastructure. FleetMatics is a key addition to our customer base and we are proud to provide support for such a fast growing company.”
Smooth Transition to Global Disaster Recovery
FleetMatics’ Mitchell noted that the migration of all UK and Irish customers to the new €1.3 million environment in Servecentric was completed ahead of schedule. The project involved ten months of planning, coding and testing; moving eight terabytes (8TB, or the equivalent of over 8,000 gigabytes) of data; reprogramming the entire European customer base of 35,000 tracking units; and keeping both existing and new data synchronized in real time for four months.
“FleetMatics was able to achieve all this with a smooth transition and no down time,” said Mitchell. “Following on from our US Data Centre move this time last year, this represents step two of our three-step journey to full Global Disaster Recovery.”
Investing in Technology for Performance Innovation
“FleetMatics is continually investing in its software and infrastructure,” said Jim Travers, FleetMatics CEO. “We will continue to make investments in our platform to ensure that our solution remains a leader in usability and system stability. Securing Servecentric as one of our data centre providers solidifies that we will continue to pursue these quality technology partnerships.”
The upgrades to FleetMatics’ platform and capabilities will result in an enhanced end-user experience for their customers. “With our investment in improved infrastructure, FleetMatics customers can rely on a robust GPS platform with further performance assurance,” Travers continued. “They gain the peace of mind in knowing that the FleetMatics application will be available to track their vehicles, and give them the hard data they need to drive their business success.” Mitchell emphasized that FleetMatics’ European customers will now enjoy an even faster system response in such areas of the platform as Dashboard, Scorecard and Reporting.
FleetMatics knows the importance of providing their customers constant, reliable service. FleetMatics customer Barry Robbins, Managing Director of Flowline Ltd, underscores this saying “If Flowline lost FleetMatics it would be a noticeable event, for example, akin to losing our whole IT system.”
