A tough economic environment is no excuse for companies not to keep innovating in areas like customer service and responsiveness; in fact, such investments will pay for themselves and are helping many companies weather the current economic storm.

Businesses at the coal face realise that it’s more expensive to gain new business than it is to sustain existing customers and an investment in efficiencies that boost customer satisfaction is worthwhile.

Established in 2004, FleetMatics, an Irish GPS vehicle-tracking software company, has had an astounding impact and are now the fastest-growing company in this space with over 80,000 vehicles utilising its unique GPS software.

A cornerstone of the FleetMatics philosophy is to provide an easy-to-use, easy-to-access system accessible from any internet site anywhere in the world. Customers can track their vehicles from an internet-enabled computer at any time and any location, 24 hours a day. Key management reports are instantly available providing valuable information for fleet owners of any size. These reports are geared to help drive down operational costs and increase employee productivity.

“We are absolutely delighted and proud of our position in the market as we are currently the fastest growing company in this space,” says sales director Derek Bryan.

Not only does the FleetMatics system track the location of vehicles, but it is also used to monitor engine idling, speed, fuel and provides a host of other useful information. Our fleet tracking system is easy to use, improves productivity, reduces fuel costs, enhances customer service and provides our customers with the reporting information needed to make real-time business decisions.

We provide services to any fleet regardless of size. Our competitive prices make a GPS solution a benefit to customers with fleets ranging from three vehicles upwards and our largest client has over 2,000 vehicles. In fact, our system is so reliable and popular that over 25pc of our new business comes from over the internet (the remainder from face-to-face sales) by way of our online demos. This route to market is proving extremely effective with smaller fleets.

Typically a new FleetMatics customer experiences a rapid improvement in productivity and an instant improvement in his own customer response times. Our exclusive reporting functions make it easy for fleet owners to use the information gained from timely reports to increase productivity and profitability.

We have a state-of-the-art command and control centre in Cookstown where we can accurately measure activity on the system. This is key to our success and enables us to promise customers 99.98pc software uptime, which is unique in the industry.

FleetMatics has developed an impressive array of clients in the SME and corporate space. Deploying the technology is straightforward. Book an online demo with us at www.fleetmatics.ie and you’ll see it’s as easy as using an ATM. If you can get online, you can use our system. It’s that simple.

We designed the software in conjunction with people who have previously worked in the service and transport industry. The hardware installed in fleet vehicles is robust and reliable and can be modified online. We make it easy for our clients to do business and offer tailor-made contracts to suit the current business environment.

Crucially, we wholly own the property rights to the software, unlike some competitors who are agents or subsidiaries of foreign companies. We are currently re-signing over 90pc of our customers, which speaks volumes for our reputation and track record.

What does the future hold for FleetMatics?

We are committed to providing customers with a future-proof system and unrivalled service. We will continue our rapid growth, not just in Ireland and the UK, but in the US, where we are the fastest-growing company in this space. Our aim is to continue expanding at the rate that we have been doing. We get most of our business from referrals and our customers are key to our success. Integrated Communications Ltd (ICL)

ICL implemented the FleetMatics vehicle-management system in 2005 for its fleet of 120 vehicles. Access to real-time information meant ICL could direct its fleet of engineers quickly and efficiently at a moment’s notice. Out-of-hours work could be confirmed on site and helped improve productivity.

“We have been using the FleetMatics software for three years now. This has resulted in more efficient engineers, more jobs per day, reduced communication costs, and improved response times,” says Mick Kelly, managing director of ICL Ltd.

Commercial Wireless

Through the use of the FleetMatics system, Commercial Wireless has seen significant improvements in reducing both their fuel and overtime costs. Productivity has increased greatly and customer service has improved as they can now easily resolve customer disputes regarding arrival and departure times from job sites.

“After installing FleetMatics we saw an immediate change. Through improved productivity and better territory management we are adding an additional €52,000 per year to our bottom line,” says Derek McDonald, director, Commercial Wireless.
